The home and project studio is where humidity gets expensive quietly. It is usually a spare room, a converted garage or a basement — spaces that swing harder than the rest of the house — and it is full of the most reactive things you own: acoustic guitars on the wall, a nice electric on a stand, maybe a piano, an amp cab, all tracked at 2am and left out. Nobody notices the slow drift until a favourite guitar buzzes or a top sinks.

Layer 1 — the room

Start by measuring: put a hygrometer (or a couple) where the instruments actually live for two weeks. Garages and basements often read very differently from the main house. Then aim the room at 45–55% RH: a humidifier for dry heating-season rooms, a dehumidifier for damp basements and humid climates. The catch every studio owner learns is that room machines need daily water or emptying, and they stop the moment you go on tour or away for the weekend — which is exactly when a room drifts to an extreme unattended.

Layer 2 — the cases (the part that never sleeps)
