Quick answer: An all-carbon-fiber guitar does not absorb water, so it does not need a humidity pack. The moment wood enters the picture, a wooden neck or fingerboard on a hybrid, or the wooden guitars sharing your home, humidity control is back on the table. The 45–55% RH rule protects everything with wood fibers in it, and a two-way 49% pack is the low-effort way to hold it.
Carbon fiber guitars are marketed on exactly the fear this blog exists to manage: cracks, seasonal setup drift, the parked car, the dry cabin. The marketing is mostly fair. It is also where a few expensive misunderstandings start, so let us sort them myth by myth.
Myth 1: “Carbon guitars need a humidifier too, just in case”
Reality: no. Composite laminate is not hygroscopic. It does not take on or give up moisture the way wood does, which is why carbon makers advertise stability through humidity and temperature swings that would send a spruce top to the repair bench. Putting a humidity pack inside an all-composite instrument does nothing for the instrument. If the whole guitar, neck included, is composite, spend the money on strings instead.
Myth 2: “I bought carbon, so my humidity worries are over”
Reality: check the neck, then check the rest of the room. Plenty of carbon-bodied guitars are hybrids with wooden necks or ebony and rosewood fingerboards, and those parts behave exactly like the wood they are: boards shrink in dry air, fret ends turn sharp, and seasonal setup drift returns through the one wooden component on the instrument. And almost nobody owns only carbon. The player with a composite travel guitar usually also owns the wooden dreadnought, the ukulele, the partner's violin. The composite solves its own problem and leaves the rest of the collection exactly where it was.
Myth 3: “Composite means I can ignore the case entirely”
Reality: heat and corrosion still exist. Carbon shrugs off moisture, but a parked car in summer is still hostile territory for finishes, resins, setups and electronics, as our parked-car guide explains. Salt air still rusts strings and hardware. The case remains the instrument's best insurance, it just no longer needs an RH number inside for the composite itself.

Do carbon fiber guitars ever crack from humidity?
Not from humidity. Composite failures come from impact or manufacturing issues, not moisture exchange, which is the entire pitch of the material.
Does a carbon guitar with a wooden fingerboard really need care?

What about carbon violins and cellos?
