Tuning drift has fashionable suspects — cheap tuners, slippery strings, bad technique. But machine heads are worm gears that essentially cannot slip, and fresh strings settle within a day or two. When a guitar that tuned fine in April drifts every fifteen minutes in July, the thing that changed is the air. How air detunes a guitar
Your strings are stretched between two pieces of wood. An acoustic top rises and falls with moisture like a barometer: as RH climbs, the top swells and arches, carrying the bridge up with it — string tension rises and pitch drifts sharp. As the air dries, the top flattens and the neck loses moisture; tension drops and everything sags flat. Two side effects make it worse. First, the nut: dry slots shrink and pinch, humid slots swell and grip, so the string sticks, then releases in a jump — the classic ping and suddenly-flat G string. Second, corrosion: humid air rusts strings, and corroded strings stretch unevenly and won’t hold pitch cleanly no matter what the wood does.

The stability routine
Stabilise the wood and tuning gets boring. Humidity or temperature — which detunes more?
