Why brands switch

Four reasons packaging teams rip out silica gel

Silica gel and clay absorb ~30% of their weight. Our plant-fiber composite passes 100%, with no leakage and no petroleum footprint.

FAQ

Everything procurement asks before switching

How is it different from silica gel?

Plant-fiber active that biodegrades, not mineral silica gel. Up to 5x the absorption. Bag is compostable to ASTM D6400 and EN 13432.

Is it FDA approved for food and supplement packaging?

Yes. The fiber desiccant and liner material are FDA approved for direct food and dietary-supplement contact, backed by compliance certificates from the manufacturing facilities. Not for ingestion.

Can I replace silica gel one-for-one?

Yes, usually with less mass. 1 kg fiber absorbs ~1.5 L vs ~0.3 L for silica gel. Most cartons need one-third to one-fifth of the mass.

What is the shelf life, and how do I store them before use?

Unopened in the original sealed packaging, 12 months from the manufacture date. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from moisture, and do not open the bulk pack until you are ready to feed your line, because the fiber starts absorbing humidity once exposed. After opening, effective life depends on your packaging and environment.

How do I handle them on the line?

Once the inner pack is open, use the desiccant in a relatively sealed environment as soon as possible. Exposure limits: at RH up to 50%, keep air exposure under 2 hours; at RH 60% or above, under 1 hour; at RH 80% or above, pause operations. If you stop for more than 30 minutes, re-bundle the remaining packs in a sealed bag.

How can I tell if a desiccant is still effective?

Gently bend it. A fresh, effective unit feels relatively stiff. If it has gone noticeably soft, it has absorbed moisture and is past full capacity, time to swap it. The manufacture date is printed on the carton label by the shipping label; there is no expiry date, only a MFG date.

Lead time, MOQ, and certifications?

First run ~42 days, repeats 10 to 15 days. MOQ 60,000 units per SKU for printed Desimat; stock FPH-1 ships in trial quantities. Certifications on request: SGS EN 13432, ASTM D6400, FDA food-contact, ISO 14067, SGS REACH, RoHS, Halogen, Anti-mould, ISO 9001, ISO 14001.
